Architectural, scenographic, landscape and technical conversion of Montbéliard castle
In the heart of Montbéliard, the castle-museum stands as a living witness to ten centuries of history. Projectiles has undertaken a bold yet respectful transformation of this emblematic site, where every intervention is part of an ethic of conservation and renewal. The architecture reveals the strata of time, offering a subtle dialogue between heritage and modernity.
The esplanade plays a central role, linking buildings and uses in a setting open to the sky and the city. This revitalized meeting place strengthens the connection between visitors and the surrounding area, celebrating the site's rich history.
The visitor moves through graphic and digital contextualization devices, from intimate atmospheres to open perspectives on the city. The project, conceived as part of an eco-responsible approach, relies on the reuse of materials and eco-design. In this way, the Château-Musée de Montbéliard does more than simply preserve the past; it offers a contemporary and lively vision of our heritage, offering visitors a genuine journey through time, while embodying the art of living together.
The interior volumes, in particular the Chancellery, have been redesigned to enhance existing morphological qualities while creating new living spaces.
The scenography enhances this experience by offering an immersive journey, where the collections interact with the architectural context. Each space tells a story, combining art, science and collective memory. The tour begins in dark, enveloping atmospheres, illustrating the “long time” through immersive devices that anchor the objects in their historical context. Gradually, the scenography becomes lighter and brighter, opening up the spaces to the city and its landscapes, as an invitation to contemplate the transformations of the territory.
Graphic and digital elements support this temporal transition, adding a visual dialogue with the architecture and views of the city, which act as a backdrop. Through integrated signage and carefully designed observation points, visitors can follow the thread of the transformation of the spaces, where legends, science and memory intertwine.
