The Musée de la Musique presents its new permanent exhibition, a scenographic exploration of musical connections around the world. This renovated exhibition highlights the circulation of instruments, materials, and repertoires between cultures, revealing the exchanges and influences that have shaped music over the centuries.
The scenography of the new exhibition is based on three main principles. First, a completely renovated introductory space, designed as a treasure trove of some sixty objects. This space expresses the diversity of forms, materials, and uses of the objects in the collection, offering an immersive experience from the moment visitors enter.
Secondly, the creation of “crossroads” between objects, images, and instruments from five continents, highlighting the connections between civilizations. These spaces are designed as contact zones, highlighting the intersections between musical worlds over the centuries.
Finally, there is a new immersive space dedicated to world music, “Des musiques et des mondes” (Music and Worlds), which explores the dynamics of musical connection and circulation across time and geography. This dynamic and flexible exhibition offers a global and connected vision of music, inviting visitors to discover the richness and diversity of the world's musical heritage.
The scenography also promotes a fruitful dialogue between the arts, with recent acquisitions of works of art and loans from prestigious institutions. Contemporary artists' interventions punctuate the journey, offering a renewed vision of instrumental heritage. A new listening space also allows for the organization of cultural activities and the dissemination of audiovisual content, connecting ancient heritage to emerging music scenes.
