Today, the city is composed and recomposed internally rather than continuing to spread outwards. The history of our cities is nourished by the history of the buildings that give them their structure. “In renewing the existing patrimonial architecture, and while respecting the existing architecture, our aim is to strike a balance between highlighting the architectural heritage, respecting the functions of the different parts and facilitating maintenance at the lowest possible cost.” This global, coherent approach is present throughout the progressive definition of the project. The aim is to ensure a “grasp of the site” in the different registers and scales of the programme; the concepts proposed must “signify” the political ambitions at the origin of the project; bring out and highlight the architectural heritage through a sensitive approach; propose a flexible and evolving spatial organisation for an increasing importance of the site; finally, in a permanent preoccupation of integrating the local area, allow the population to regain possession of this history, so that residents can take responsibility for it today and show it with pride tomorrow.
