Courthouse of Paris
The conservation of the SERNAM hall opens the debate on the question of the city's soil and its topography. Continuing to build the railroad tracks beyond the Avenue de France, seems to us to be detrimental to the necessary continuity to be ensured between districts.
Moving the station to the level of Rue de Tolbiac frees up an eleven-hectare space below the Avenue de France. The central space aims to create social and urban links. A unifying space, it improves the living environment of the surrounding inhabitants while providing public space on a city scale. The project proposes a horizontal deployment over the entire SERNAM hall. This new volume reserved for offices will be pierced by patios and skylights to bring natural light into the heart of the hall, the space of the courtrooms. The distance of the building from the Avenue de France is a real support for the monumental staging. As a contemporary forecourt, we propose a hollowed-out park between the avenue that we are renaming "Quai de France" and the new Palais de Justice. We connect them with soft connections. The Palais de Justice in the horizon becomes a real moment in the movement of vehicles and pedestrians of the "Quai de France". Vehicle access will be via the Rue de Chevaleret and Rue de Louise Weiss at the back of the Palace.
