Furniture for the Philharmonie de Paris
The mission was to create a rest and relaxation area in the heart of the administrative area of the Philharmonie de Paris.
An enveloping light-wall
The space forms a double-height trapezium. It is bordered at mid-height by two passageways running alongside the offices. The long side of the trapeze is a bare, imposing wall extending over the double height. On the opposite side, a metal staircase flows into the volume and connects the two levels.

The mission was to create a rest and relaxation area in the heart of the administrative area of the Philharmonie de Paris.
The space forms a double-height trapezium. It is bordered at mid-height by two passageways running alongside the offices. The long side of the trapeze is a bare, imposing wall extending over the double height. On the opposite side, a metal staircase flows into the volume and connects the two levels.
We decided to transform the large wall into a luminous surface, with a soft and homogeneous intensity; to place a series of furniture facing the light, designing micro spaces for relaxing and a small meeting alcove. The furniture is designed along curved lines whose sinuous deployment expresses a certain musicality. The walls of the meeting room undulate and rise more or less, depending on the proximity of the side corridors, so as to preserve the intimacy of its interior, with plunging views.
The furniture is made of birch wood and is matt lacquered. This material is in line with the interior cladding of the rehearsal rooms and existing work spaces, also referring to the materiality of the musical instruments. The inside of the furniture and the seats are covered with felt to dampen the sound.
The lighting fixtures are objects specifically designed for the Philharmonie de Paris. They are chandeliers made up of cymbals suspended by a fine tubular brass frame, fixed in the groove of the ceiling. The sources are small luminous discs (source Oled) inserted in the hollow of the cymbals. The suspended luminaire itself is lit by spotlights. They sparkle and send out bursts of soft, copper-coloured light throughout the space.
