Rehabilitation & extension of the ecomuseum of Avesnois
The morphological qualities of the site are undeniable. The fragmented layout of the constructions generates a series of in-betweens that are particularly interesting for the design of the new spaces of the Ecomuseum. Even though the brick homogenises the whole building, the sizes and volumes of the constructions are heterogeneous and visible from several points of view.
The new entrance to the Ecomuseum is more exposed to the city, inviting visitors to enter in a more welcoming manner. This more visible extension also marks the appearance of a new architectural identity to the site, symbolising the renewal of this facility.
The new constructions benefit from the same architectural treatment and favour the transparency of their outer envelopes. The structures, ceilings and their fittings are characterised by their clarity. This contemporary and contrasting contribution to the mineral unity of the site will allow the different constructions to reveal themselves mutually and to enhance their value.
