Think Tank Center in Hutchinson
The adaptation of the programme developed on a flat surface with a building on two elongated levels, led us not only to work horizontally, but also to look at the space in its entirety.
We opted for the creation of a Walled City, with the programmatic elements in the form of small identifiable architectural units organised around small meeting places, with the whole being inserted into the characteristic structure of the building. The need to create flooring on the upper level led us to set up open spaces, which were placed on crossbeams of the Eiffel Tower structure and separated by empty spaces. The “rafts” are composed through a shift of the architectural elements of the lower levels. The connections are clearly identifiable. Even leaving aside the question of length, which gives it such undeniable visibility, we see this large dimension as the best means to contain an apparently confusing wealth of highly diverse programmatic elements.
